This man, James Verone, robbed a bank for one dollar. Why only one dollar? Because he knew that in prison he could get the medical care he could not afford with his part time salary as a convenience store clerk. He was approved for food stamps, but they did little to help his finances. Between his back problems, carpel tunnel, and arthritis, he simply couldn’t handle the pain any longer.

On June 9th, he sent a letter to his local paper, the Gaston Gazette, that stated: “When you receive this a bank robbery will have been committed by me. this robbery is being committed by me for one dollar. I am of sound mind but not so much sound body.”

He then took a cab to the RBC Bank, and handed the teller a note asking for one dollar and medical attention. He quietly took a seat in the lobby and waited for police to arrive.

Since Verone only stole one dollar, he was only charged with larceny. His bail, which he doesn’t plan to pay is set at $2,000, reduced from the normal $100,000. He’s scheduled to see a doctor this Friday, and hopes to get foot surgery, back surgery and to have a protrusion on his check treated.

To me, this is the perfect example of how disturbingly corrupt and unjust our health care system has become under HMO’s. For this man, or any person for that matter, feels that he needs to be imprisoned just to see a doctor, is ridiculous.

This is exactly what I hate about America. Why is it that you can buy an entire house with money you don’t have, but still can’t apply for health care if you don’t meet the requirements? That’s messed up.

This is what sick people in America are resorting to. But BEST HEALTHCARE SYSTEM IN THE WORLD, right guys?

I live in a third world country and we have free healthcare

The first 3 - Boston, Chicago, and Seattle, are available now as prints at my Etsy store, and will shortly be available on shirts and device cases at my RedBubble shop. Each has a daytime/sunset version, so you can pick your preferred magic hour.

The idea of a universal food synthesizer sounds like something straight out of the Jetsons or Star Trek, but thanks to a $125,000 grant from NASA, a 3-D food printer may become a reality.

Anjan Contractor, a senior mechanical engineer at Systems and Materials Research Corporation, is already working on bringing the idea to fruition.

NASA’s interested because storing the various ingredients as a power greatly extends their shelf life for lengthy travel through space, but Contractor wants to keep all of the recipes open source, so the general public could eventually benefit as well.

So how will the pizza be made?

Pizza will be one of the first items printed because of its natural layers of ingredients. First, a layer of dough will be printed and baked at the same time using a heated plate at the bottom of the printer. A layer of tomato base will follow — made of powder, water and oil — then a protein layer will top the pizza.

Thanks to this well thought out and researched news report we can conclude that Tortimer as well as other adults who play Animal Crossing are in fact all pedophiles.

There are cool basement bars and then there is this basement arcade bar. Redditor Mertzlufft and his father built this incredible arcade in their basement, housing 42 arcade games! Games random from the original Donkey Kong, to Hydro Thunder, to Galaga and everything is set to free play. The bar in the center looks to be the perfect place to start out. Now let me explain to you why Sweet Frog is the shit, alright?

It’s basically a Christian organization done right, in this time where you have assholes like Chick-Fil-A and stuff, you might walk into a Sweet Frog and see ‘Fully Rely on God’ on the wall and little Bible verses on the cups or hear their music which in some locations is just praise music and think “Oh great, bigots.” but you hold on for one second before you walk out the door.

It’s understandable that someone walking through the door would be concerned that their money may end up going toward organizations that work against gay marriage, a woman’s right to abortion, and various other things that Christian businesses are infamous for. However, Sweet Frog holds the stance that upholding Christian values means helping those around you, and that means not diminishing someone’s importance or alienating them because of race, creed, gender, sexual preference, or gender identity or any number of things, that all people deserve to be treated with respect.

When you visit Sweet Frog you can rest assured that your money will be going toward groups such as Tiger Lily Charities (a nonprofit that gives financial aid to individuals with leukemia and their families), Interfaith Outreach United (a group of businesses and groups of various faiths including Muslim, Jewish, and various branches of Christianity that work together to volunteer their time to their communities to feed the hungry, visit the sick, help the homeless, and perform random acts of kindness while simultaneously spreading understanding and tolerance at the same time), They donated money to go toward helping those in Boston after the bombings and they have donated money to raise awareness concerning the issues of human trafficking.

So next time you head into Sweet Frog to enjoy a cup of chocolate hazelnut frozen yogurt with hot fudge, cheesecake bites and reeses bits or mango berry colada with mochi and fresh fruit….. you can enjoy it knowing that you’re supporting a business that respects you and those you love.

When I was young I learned a lot from watching my parents doing what they liked and being happy in the process. That is why everything I liked was cool to me, and even if others considered dumb, weird, or childish, it never really made me squirm or want to change. At the same time I totally respected others tastes, I was never a “console war kid”

I only integrated new things I started liking along the way no matter what aimed demographic it was for. I guess, that is why my some of my friends always find it interesting that I really like games like Contra, DeadSpace, Mortal Kombat and at the same time I will pick up a copy of games like Animal Crossing, Kirby or Katamari on their launch day.

It does make me wonder though, how people can be so narrow minded and think that just because society tells you that games like Kirby and Animal Crossing are made for little children you can’t play them, and if you do, then something is wrong with you.

For example, today I tweeted about how excited I was for Animal Crossing: New Leaf being released in 17 days to only be met by a friend telling me “Seriously? My little sister played that game on her DS when she was 6.”

Also, a couple months ago I was asked by airport security personnel in my home-country (Ecuador) if ’ ¿”these” games are the ones that make you gay?’ (When checking my bag and subsequently finding a copy of Kirby’s Adventure for the NES).

I’m guessing it’s because Latin American culture is still very male-centric and men are not supposed (or be vocal about) liking “cute” or whatever category things like animal crossing and Kirby fall through. ?
